The First Katy Home & Garden Show has added two big names to its list of attractions for this coming January at the Leonard Merrell Center.
Katy resident Frank Bielec and Carter Oosterhouse, both of The Learning Channel's “Trading Spaces” will be special guests at the show Jan. 27-28 where they will meet fans, lead seminars and answer questions about their popular show.
A native of Wallis, Bielec holds a bachelor's and master's degree in education and was originally an elementary school teacher before teaching courses on art and social studies and earning a master of Fine Arts degree.
Bielec left education to be a florist and after 20 years in it he created and sold his own art, then combined his arts and crafts talents with his wife, specializing in designing cross-stitch patterns.
Bielec lists his design style as “eclectic country.”
“I've worked in Houston before, but I'm thrilled to be in the very first Katy show,” Bielec said.
“I love that my city now has a great home and garden show designed just for it.”
Oosterhouse, a popular carpenter on “Trading Spaces,” received a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University where he studied nutrition and communications.
He began learning carpentry skills at age 11.
“I'm honored to be a part of the first Katy Home & Garden Show,” Oosterhouse said.
“I look forward to kicking off a show that I know will give people great ideas, introduce them to home improvement experts, and, most importantly, be a lot of fun.”
Also appearing at the show are Randy Lemmon, plant expert and host of the GardenLine radio show, and High Tech Texan®, Michael
Garfield.
The 2007 Katy Home & Garden Show will utilize every
space of the new facility, from the lobby to the concourses, for “how to” seminars, elegant interior design showcases, landscape displays, expert consultations and product demonstrations. The show will feature experts in decorating, gardening, remodeling and landscaping.
