No residents appeared before the Katy City Council Monday night for the second public hearing on the proposed tax increase.

The council is expected to adopt the tax rate Monday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Katy Municipal Complex, 910 Ave. C.

The city is proposing a tax rate of 59.372 cents per $100 in taxable value for the 2008-09 fiscal year.

Since the average taxable value of a residence homestead in the City of Katy is $122,550, the amount of taxes imposed on the average home would be $727.60.

This is an 8.66-percent increase from last year’s $689.75 in taxes imposed on the average home. The amount was based on a tax rate of 60.54 cents per $100 on the average taxable value of $113,933.

" So sad, katy usta be a nice place to raise a family. Well, I recommend replacing these people, wake up and call these govenment officals. They are stealing our future. --- Either that, or resign to the fact, that we are now a socialist country. Accept it, it is here. Higher taxes, goverments own banks now. It is insane. What is next? Will we lose our right to free speech? Oh wait, we already have... :-( "
