Katy ISD's two-year stint as an exclusive district in UIL competition is over.
On Monday morning, the league released its officials realignment for 2010-2012, adding Spring Branch Memorial and Strake Jesuit along with the six KISD schools in the new District 19-5A.
Memorial is the only Spring Branch high school that did not drop to 4A in this year's realignment. Strake Jesuit has been in the UIL in 2004, ever since it and Dallas Jesuit threatened to sue the UIL for inclusion after struggling to find competition in the private school ranks.
Strake Jesuit was previously grouped with the KISD schools from 2004-2006. Memorial was a district mate of Katy High from 1980-1981, Katy and Taylor from 1986-1989 and the Tigers, Mustangs and Mayde Creek Rams from 1994-1997.
The two added teams means expanded district seasons in every team sport, with football moving from five games to seven, and boys' basketball, boys' soccer and baseball increasing from 10 games to 14.
Since Strake Jesuit doesn't have female athletic squads, girls' team sports -- soccer, basketball, soccer and volleyball -- will increase from 10 to 12-game district seasons.
Moving back to 19-5A means KISD will see teams from HISD in bi-district playoff competition.
The new 20-5A consists of Bellaire, Chavez, Lamar, Madison, MIlby, Westbury, Westside and the new Houston Math Science and Tech school.
Another new wrinkle in the new realignment sees the return of the Cy-Fair ISD schools to Region III. The eight Cy's plus Jersey Village and Langham Creek comprise the new 17-5A.
The move that probably raises the eyebrows of KISD cross country, soccer and swimming coaches the most is that of Kingwood from Region III to Region II. The Mustangs had traditionally dominated those three sports in Region III with many KISD teams finishing behind them over the years.

So, I think I have a solution that will work for both of the hottest re-topics in KISD re-alignment and re-zoning...lets bus the 700 kids that Seven Lakes needs to move to Stratford, so, they can jump back up to 5A...they're Spartans too, no one would even have to buy any new T-shirts... "
