Last year, Katy lost a valued citizen who contributed so much to the lives of those that grew up in your community and attended the Katy school district. By now, the Katy community can reflect on the personal contributions of Robert "Papaw" Keeling and easily appreciate his enduring legacy. I know this to be true, not only because of the many past forms of well-deserved recognition accorded him, but also because of his lasting impact on my life. It was in 1967 when Robert Keeling and his family relocated to Iowa from Indiana. I was a high school sophomore when I befriended his son, Dave. In fact, Dave became one of the most cherished friends of my youth. Always happy and positive, Dave was the antidote to the depressing circumstances of my life at that time. Through their kindness, the Keeling family assured me that my life had value. When my divorced mother temporarily abandoned her four children, Robert Keeling and his family enthusiastically and unconditionally offered me a home. In the absence of my own father, Robert Keeling quickly earned my respect and admiration by his kindness and patient wisdom. To me, he possessed an intuitive sense for recognizing youthful angst and then administering sincere guidance in appropriate metaphores, allowing me the benefit of making thoughtful decisions. Most often, this approach caused me to think beyond the apparent causes of my unhappiness and resolve to control my own destiny. Over the many years since my adolescence and his eventual passing, Robert Keeling remains as one of the most influential persons in my life. Without hesitation, he willingly became my needed father figure, mentor and friend. The successes that I have experienced and the contributions that I try to make in my community are directly attirbuted to his guidance. When Robert retired to Katy, it did not surprise me that he continued to share his time and wisdom with the good people of your community and quickly became "Papaw" to those who met him. In remembering Robert Keeling, my love and respect grows deeper for him when I think of the many lives in your commuinty that were equally enhanced by his unselfish words and deeds. Papaw planted many seeds that have produced so much beautiful fruit. In that, your community is immensly fortunate.

Thank you, Mr. Kaiser...What a wonderful article. You truly have the heart of a teacher. I know you also made a difference in my daughter's life during her 9th grade year here at MRHS. She is now a Freshman at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. May you continue to bless every life you come in contact with!

Thank you Scott Kaiser for reminding everyone that nearly all teachers put their heart, soul, and pocketbook out there for all of their students year after year. I am a MRHS teacher who was thrilled to read your article in the the Wednesday edition. I became a teacher because I was inspired by my high school teachers. I wake up every morning knowing that I will make a difference in the lives of my students even if they don't show me or tell me that day.

You can make significant cuts in salaries and excess personnel. If a district's funds are tied up in personnel there isn't enough left for operations. Some employees who are on 225 day contracts may need to have contracts with fewer days which results in pay cuts. Given the choice of unemployment or a pay cut, many employees would opt for the pay cut.

The HSPCA at katy mills is being shut down by the mall itself. Its sad to see that money gets the best of people. The mall says the HSPCA a non- profit organization doesn't make enough money to keep in the store. And the amount of animals it has been saving means nothing??? I think we should have a look into this.

How many quality teachers must Principal David Kendler run off from Taylor High School? It seems like this P.E. teacher turned administrator micromanages his teachers to utter frustration. I know of several great teachers who have left Taylor over the past year & am amazed that the Superintendant doesn't seem to notice. Our kids deserve the best educators possible for their intellectual growth & future success. Why doesn't KISD see that?

My family and I were relocating to Concord, Ca. so that our sons would play football for the De La Salle (National Football Champions)before learning about the town of Katy and their mighty Tigers. This town has everything that a family would want and more...looks like we're relocating to Katy to play for Coach Gary Joseph and those Katy Tigers.

I just came from the democratic caucus on Ave C, here in Katy Tx. I was very disappointed. No one knew what they were doing. Nothing was accomplished, we barely had time to sign our names to anything, supporting our candidate. No precinct judge available, it was like the blind leading the blind. I felt I was doing what I was asked to do to support our candidate, but because nothing was accomplished I feel nothing will come of the two hours I spent in line. There were three different precinct meeting there and didn't have time or the material needed to have everyone sign in to support their candidate. How can they deteremine dividing the delegates up if no one knew what they were suppose to be doing. I'm very concerned about this process, and the fairness behind it.

I didn't know Nicole Cursor, but talked to one of her friends after the accident and saw the outpouring of love for this young lady. She sounds like she was an outstanding person, and I would like to express my deepest sympathies to her family and friends that held her so dear. It is a so sad to lose someone with such promise and that was loved by so many. The bible study group that I'm in on Monday mornings at St. Peter's Methodist included Nicole and her family in our prayers.

Im really happy with Katy Times. I sometimes miss the Katy Football games because of work, but when I get home I'm so glad that I have a network with the fastest info. Keep it going with the Katy Football information. I never went to Katy High School, but so many of my neighbors kids go to it and they got me involved with Tiger Pride right after I moved here at the beginning of the school year. I just love how ya'll talk about Katy Football.

A Pat and a Pan: Just discovered your site today and will follow your coverage for the duration of the David Temple trial. "A Day In Court" (Mon, Nov 12) was a hundred times more interesting and informative than the Houston Chronicle's coverage. Wish I had known of this site all along. On the other hand, I was surprised and disappointed that the Managing Editor would use the term "reverts back." "When the assistant leaves the computer unattended, it reverts back to a desktop pattern featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator..." Major grammar error.
