A. Janice Stewart, 96, of Weston Lakes, passed away peacefully June 1, 2020 in Katy, Texas.

Janice was born on February 11, 1924 to Earl and Aletha Davis Snyder in Edmond, Oklahoma, where she was raised with her older brother E.B. and her younger sister, Ellie, her father running Snyder Grocery Stores and her mother a schoolteacher.

On December 25, 1945, she married Bob Stewart in Edmond and there began her years of travel from state to state (Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Illinois, Wyoming and finally back to Texas) during Bob’s career with Ohio Oil Company, which later become Marathon Oil.

In 1946, Janice received a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Oklahoma State University, followed by a Home Economics Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1957.  She taught high school in Brooklyn, Mississippi, followed by teaching 12 years of first grade in Orange, Van Vleck and Sweeney, Texas.

When Janice and Bob moved back to Texas the second time in 1960, they became members of the Bay City Country Club where she found another love… GOLF!  With the transfer to Lawrenceville, Illinois, she retired from education and played golf all the time.   She also enjoyed sewing, ceramics, painting, family birthdays and everything football.  With her husband Bob graduating from Oklahoma University and supporting Sooner football and Janice being a true orange OSU Cowboy fan, needless to say the Bedlam game was watched on two televisions in two different rooms.  Should OSU be victorious, Bob would not speak to Janice for a week.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert W. Stewart; her parents, Earl and Aletha Snyder; sister, Eleanor R. Lane; and brother, Earl B. Snyder.

Janice is survived by her sons, R. Michael Stewart of Kurten, Texas and Joseph E. Stewart and his wife Renee, of Bay City, Texas; five grandchildren whom she loved deeply, Alison Young and her husband Craig of Ojai, California, Ashley Kirk and her husband Andy of Santa Barbara, California, Brandon Stewart of Tomball, Rachael Johnson and her husband David of Richmond and Travis Stewart of College Station.  She is also survived by six great grandchildren.

The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to Kelli for all her help in Janice’s transition to assisted living.

A private family service was held Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Schmidt Funeral Home, in Katy, with Rev. John F. Davis, Jr. officiating.  Janice will join Bob in eternal rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
