Tompkins junior receiver Joshua McMillan II verbally committed to Houston Baptist University on April 23. McMillan caught 31 passes for 522 yards and eight touchdowns in 2020, averaging 16.8 yards per catch. McMillan is also the anchor for the Falcons’ state-bound 4x100 relay that finished second at the Region III-6A meet April 24 with a time of 40.71 seconds. …

Cinco Ranch senior Amelia Flynt’s throw of 171 feet in the discus at the 19-20-6A area meet two weeks ago is No. 7 on the World Athletics (formerly the IAAF) rankings for athletes under 20-years-old (U20). Flynt’s mark ranks first in the U.S. …

Former Mayde Creek star Shaylon Govan made Stephen F. Austin softball history when she drilled her 14th home run of the season in a 3-0 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday, April 24. Govan’s 14 homers are a single season record for the Ladyjacks, who are 28-9 this season. Govan’s record home run was a two-run shot over the left field wall. Govan is a sophomore and has 20 home runs through her first 61 games as a Ladyjack. …

On Friday, April 23, two Morton Ranch coaches, Matt Sciba and Daniel Pacer, helped a young lady to safety whose car was hit by a man crossing the median at Mason and Park Row. “We really appreciate your efforts and selfless response,” Angelica Blanco-Muniz, the mother of the young lady, wrote to the coaches in a tweet. “I want (to) express my sincere gratitude from my family to yours.” Sciba is the offensive coordinator for the Mavericks’ varsity football program. Pacer is a varsity football and varsity baseball assistant coach. …

In this week’s Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 6A state rankings, Katy High is ranked No. 3 and Tompkins is ranked No. 8. In the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A softball rankings, Katy is ranked No. 25.
