“I’m just proud that all of the guys stayed positive, they stayed together as a team and this feeling is great. They came out, had a good game on homecoming in front of a lot of people. You could see the Cougars pride and I’m very happy about that.”

Cinco Ranch needed to bounce back.
The Cougars had a rough three week stretch heading into this week, losing three games with the last two coming down to the wire against programs also contending for the playoffs in district.
Cinco knew they needed to find a way to come back strong this week and even with facing adversity the Cougars (3-6, 3-4) battled to do just that, overcoming a fourth quarter deficit to beat Mayde Creek (4-4, 2-4) 47-38 on the Cougars homecoming.
“Going through stuff like that it can weigh on you because at the end of the day we all are human and we all are doing everything we can to win these games from the players to the coaches,” said Cinco Ranch head coach Chris Dudley. “I’m just proud that all of the guys stayed positive, they stayed together as a team and this feeling is great. They came out, had a good game on homecoming in front of a lot of people. You could see the Cougars pride and I’m very happy about that.”
Cinco took the lead on the first play from scrimmage, as Charlie Adamoli found Drew Tureau on a 43-yard pass touchdown just eight seconds into the game. Cinco got the ball back just two plays later on a fumble and went down to score on a field goal before adding another touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Adamoli to Scott Eckel. Cinco added a field goal before the end of the first quarter from 48 yards out to make it a 20-0 game.
Mayde Creek started to answer back after that. Trey Williams threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Daylin Robinson early in the second quarter, but Cinco answered back when Daniel Scarabino took the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown of his own. Williams then ran in a 1-yard touchdown on Mayde Creek’s next drive, but Cinco again had the answer, driving down the field and scoring on an 8-yard run from Marcus Gadlin. Mayde Creek though had one more touchdown in them before the end of the half. The Rams got a big return and then on a trick play, AJ Ward found David Matthews Jr. for a 25-yard touchdown to trim Cinco’s lead to 33-24 heading into the locker room.
“It was super important to get off to that fast start the way we did,” Adamoli said. “the offensive line did great, the receivers got open, running backs made plays. Everything clicked for us early. We just have to focus on putting that together for four quarters.”
The Rams came out strong in the second half and trimmed Cinco’s lead to one point when Williams threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Robinson. The Rams then took the lead on a 44-yard pass from Williams to Robinson, but Cinco recovered and took the lead back with just under five minutes remaining when Adamoli found Tureau on a 21-yard touchdown pass to the corner of the endzone. Cinco’s defense forced a turnover and then Cinco sealed it when Adamoli connected with Tureau again, this time on a tipped pass, that went for a 27-yard touchdown.
“The defense was huge, especially in the second half, they were the ones who put us in position to score those last two touchdowns,” Tureau said. “We struggled on offense for a lot of the second half and our defense held their own and really were the reason we won this game.”
Tureau finished the game with seven receptions for 149 yards and three touchdowns, Adamoli completed 15 of 25 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns to go with one interception while Marcus Gadlin had 16 rushes for 77 yards and a score.
“Drew is just a gamer, there is no moment that is too big for him,” Dudley said. “He wants the ball and he always executes in those moments. He made some great catches tonight and the offensive line gave Charlie time to make those throws.”
Cinco closes out its regular season against Morton Ranch next Thursday and will have a bye in the final week of the regular season. It will be an important one for the Cougars as they try to finish out district with a win and give themselves a chance to go further.
“Everyone answered the bell tonight,” Dudley said. “When we went down it could have gone one of two ways, but everyone fought, and they got us back into it. I’m extremely proud of our defense. They came up so huge in the fourth quarter and did everything we could have asked for. We’ve had our struggles there, but the defense rose up tonight and they were at their best when we needed them to be.”
