Cinco Ranch High School student Sydney Herring has been named to the 2024 cohort of the FFA Ford Leadership Scholars program, one of only ten selected students, Katy ISD announced in a September 23 press release. She is also the president of her school’s FFA chapter.
As a part of the program, Herring will work with a mentor throughout the year to identify a need in the community. Working with her FFA chapter, she will work to develop and fund a project to meet that need.
“I am so happy to be one of just ten students chosen for this year’s cohort for the leadership program,” Herring said. “There are more than 177,000 members in the Texas FFA and so I am especially honored to be chosen.”
State members of the FFA who have met the requirements for the Lone Star Degree are eligible to apply for the Ford Leadership Scholars program. Students submit an application and essay, and the finalists are interviewed for each year’s cohort. Those selected participate in an intensive, week-long leadership training program where they prepare to be leaders in the community and beyond. At the end of their program, they are recognized at the state convention and receive a $1,000 scholarship.
