Ward A Council Member Janet Corte won re-election Saturday, defeating challenger Cara Bonin, according to unofficial election results.

Corte, a retired IT manager, received 480 votes, or 85%. Bonin, a contractor, received 82 votes, or 15%.

“I’m pretty excited to have another three years,” Corte said. “I think we’ve gotten a lot done in the five years I’ve been on the council. I’m looking forward to continuing the momentum we’ve got going and keep Katy moving in a great direction.”

Corte said she wanted to thank all the people who helped her over the five years who helped her get to this spot, where she has won her third consecutive term on the council.

“I heard a lot of opinions,” Corte said. “I learned something from everyone I’ve met over the last five years. I have to say thank you to those people. I want to thank them for the opportunity to go for another three years.”

Corte was first elected to the council in 2018, defeating incumbent Ray Boothe. She won re-election in 2020, defeating two opponents.

Council Member-at-Large Chris Harris, a public safety consultant, and Ward B Council Member Rory Robertson, a financial advisor, were also to have been on the ballot. However, neither drew an opponent, and under city law, they were both declared as having been re-elected at the council’s Feb. 27 meeting.

The council must canvass and certify the election results. Following that, Corte, Harris and Robertson will be sworn into office. It will be the final term for all three under term limits.
