Katy ISD celebrating National School Counseling Week

This week, Katy ISD is celebrating National School Counseling Week to highlight the contributions of its school counselors and their impact in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

The district said its counselors work with school administrators, teachers, school staff and Katy ISD community stakeholders every day and do so much more than is realized.

Katy ISD to officially dedicate Robertson Elementary Feb. 21

Katy ISD said it will officially dedicate its newest elementary school Feb. 21.

Robertson Elementary, 7400 Innovation Dr., opened Aug. 17, on the first day of the 2023-24 school year. The district typically holds its dedication ceremonies in the spring semester after the school opens.

The elementary is named in honor of Steve and Elaine Robertson. Steve Robertson began his career as an elementary teacher in Spring Branch ISD in 1985. He later served in roles in Conroe ISD and then Katy ISD, where he served as an elementary, junior high and high school principal. Eventually, he became as an assistant superintendent for secondary school leadership and support. In these roles, Dr. Robertson led school improvement efforts, increased student performance, and provided support and mentorship to staff and campus leadership.

Elaine Robertson joined Katy ISD in 1997 as a parent-infant advisor. In 2002, she took a leadership role as an instructional officer for deaf education, vision and assistive technology. She wrote grants to fund innovative instruction, provided engaging and inspiring staff development sessions, and served on inclusion and site-based management teams. She also organized extra-curricular programs to bridge academic and social gaps between the deaf and hard of hearing and other students. Robertson played a key role in establishing Katy ISD’s Audiological Center.
