Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones (center) helps distribute IPads at the Steve Radack Community Center, 18650 Clay Road in Houston, on December 11. The refurbished machines, distributed in partnership with AT&T and Human I-T, were given to 50 pre-selected Boys & Girls Club members. The Radack Center is one of three Precinct 4 locations which offer after-school programming in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. “Thousands of students in Harris County lack home access to high-speed internet or a computer, which hinders their ability to complete homework, explore educational resources, and engage in online learning.” said a spokesperson for the commissioner’s office. “Without these resources, students may struggle academically, limiting their future opportunities.” Over 40% of low-income families lack a computer or broadband access, and nearly 60% do not own a tablet. Briones’ office said.
