Katy ISD came away with two gold medalists at the Class 6A State Wrestling tournament over the weekend, with Cinco Ranch’s Jackson Herman winning the 132-pound weight class and Jordan’s Garrett McChesney winning in the 138-pound weight class.

Katy ISD came away with two gold medalists at the Class 6A State Wrestling tournament over the weekend, with Cinco Ranch’s Jackson Herman winning the 132-pound weight class and Jordan’s Garrett McChesney winning in the 138-pound weight class.
It was a big day for McChesney, as he won his second straight state title and was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler for his efforts, including finishing the season with an undefeated record. Garrett won his state title match to clinch the undefeated season at 43-0. Herman won his state title match and finished the season with only two losses on the way to his state championship, finishing the season 50-2.
Overall Katy ISD had four people reach the medal stand, all on the boy’s side, with Tompkins’ Matteo Nikolov claiming a second place finish in the 165-pound weight class and Morton Ranch’s Juan Lizama finishing third in the 175-pound weight class.
Nikolov made it all the way to the state title match before falling in his final to Arlington Martin’s Grayson Carpenter, while Lizama made it to the semifinal match of the 175-pound weight class before winning the third-place match over McKinney Boyd’s Cameron Girard.
The highest placed finishers on the girl’s side were Cinco Ranch’s Nevada Daniels and Mayde Creek’s Emma Dutcher, who both finished fourth in the 114-pound and 152-pound weight classes respectively.
On the boys side Katy ISD had four fourth place finishers. Paetow’s Carlos Gonzalez Jr. placed fourth in the 126-pound weight class, Cinco Ranch’s Vince Echavarry placed fourth in the 150-pound weight class, Jordan’s Jeremy Alo-Perry finished fourth in the 190-pound weight class and Katy’s Dimitrios Katsigiannis finished fourth in the 215-pound weight class.
