Katy ISD joined a large group of school districts throughout the state to join the Texas Way Sportsmanship Initiative, urging competitors, coaches and spectators to provide sportsmanship and positivity during athletic contests this school year.
“With Katy ISD Fall Sports in full swing, we want to applaud our athletes, parents and spectators for an excellent start to the season,” a Katy ISD Department of Athletics Statement said. “It has always been the Katy ISD Athletic Department’s expectation that spectators, at any athletic contest, promote sportsmanship and provide positive verbal support for their team. We will always seek to provide a great experience for all athletes, spectators and officials through a safe and positive environment for competition.”
The goal of the Texas Way is to provide good sportsmanship and a positive competitive environment while reducing ejections and foster a positive relationship between coaches, athletes officials and spectators. There are three pillars to make this happen that Katy ISD asks all coaches players and spectators to honor to make this happen. Those three pillars are to have respect for others and honor all participants involved, to have control of self and control ones anger in the face of competition and adversity and commit to the spirit of the competition and give everything to be the absolute best you can, but not sacrifice integrity to do so.
“At the end of the day, we want all athletes to have the opportunity to compete and we want to provide spectators a first class experience at our events,” the Katy ISD Department of Atheltics statement said. “We appreciate your support!”
The Texas way is a collaborative campaign between the Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas High School Athletic Directors Association and 2Words Character Development.
