Two katy area grads made an impact on the college football landscape this week, as Paetow grad Alex Kilgore and Royal grad Justin Cryer both were named to the ACC team of the week by Pro Football Focus after big performances for their teams.
Cryer had a huge day in Florida State’s 23-16 loss to Duke, stepping up as one of the best defensive players on the field in the game. The sophomore had seven tackles, five of which were solo and two tackles for loss as he was a force in coverage and around the line of scrimmage all game. Cryer set career highs for himself in tackles, solo tackles and tackles for loss in the process.
Kilgore made his name in coverage during SMU’s 40-10 win over Stanford. The sophomore had one tackle and broke up two passes in the game while keeping Stanford from getting anything going offensively. The two passes defended were a career high for Kilgore.
SMU stayed unbeaten in ACC play with the win, improving to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Florida State fell to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play after the loss. The two sophomores completed the ACC’s linebackers of the week, with both taking up the two spots on the team.
