Rev. Boyd Vincent Baker

Rev. Boyd Vincent Baker beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Richmond, Texas.
Born on July 11, 1926, in Woodbury, Iowa to the late Fred and Lavina (Bales) Baker.

Boyd served his country honorably as a member of the US Navy during WWII.
He lived a full and rich life devoted to his family, faith, and community.
After the war, at the age of 16, Boyd saw what was later to be the love of his life, while singing on a stage in front of a very large audience. Among all those people he saw Emily Rose, who was later to become his wife. They shared 74 yrs of marriage until Emily passed away on July 16, 2023.

Boyd was always a man of faith and lived a life to exemplify that faith in God. He felt a strong calling to serve God in a greater and more meaningful way, at which time he entered SMU Perkins School of Theology.

With three young children to support and care for; the responsibilities were heavy for both Boyd and Emily. Meeting with the Bishop at the time; Boyd confirmed to the Bishop that he wanted to go into the ministry, with Emily voicing a resounding, "AND I WILL FOLLOW AND SUPPORT HIM".

After graduating and becoming an ordained minister of the Methodist church; he served numerous appointments throughout East Texas, South Texas and Greater Houston Texas where he shared his love, compassion and empathy to all those he met and served throughout the remainder of his life.

In the 1990s, Boyd and Emily moved to Katy, Texas, where they became cherished member of the community. Boyd was an active member of the Katy Lions Club and served as Pastor Emeritus at Grace Fellowship Church, where he inspired many with his wisdom and compassion.

He had a zest for life and enjoyed singing and dancing with Emily Rose. He was passionate reader with a deep love for history. Above all, Boyd cherished his family and loved spending time with his five children whom he is survived by Larry Boyd Baker and his spouse, Jerry of East Bernard, Gary Baker and his spouse, Bong Narvas of Houston, Ronald Lynn Baker of Katy, Emily Anne (Baker) Wingate and her spouse, Michael of Richmond, and Laura Lee Baker of Katy; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.

His legacy of love, faith and service will live on through them and all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Grace Fellowship Church, 2655 S. Mason Rd. Katy, Texas with Pastor Cindi Lomax officiating. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Covenant House of Houston, Texas at www.covenanthouse.org/homeless-shelters/houston-texas in Boyd's memory.

Boyd will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever be a guiding light to his family and friends.
May he rest in peace.
