The top four kept up their strong run of form in District 19-6A on Tuesday, with Tompkins, Cinco Ranch, Taylor and Jordan all earning wins, while first place Katy had a bye.

Softball Roundup: Top four continue to create space in district

The top four kept up their strong run of form in District 19-6A on Tuesday, with Tompkins, Cinco Ranch, Taylor and Jordan all earning wins, while first place Katy had a bye.

Tompkins run rules Morton Ranch

Tompkins had a huge offensive day on Tuesday, scoring 20 runs in a 20-4 win over Morton Ranch and staying in third in district, improving to 13-10 overall and 9-4 in district.

Lainey Wilkerson led the way for the Falcons with five RBIs, while Kaylee Segura had four RBIs and three others had two. Samantha Crumrin took the mound for Tompkins and pitched four innings, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out five and walking one.

Tompkins got ahead early, scoring their first run on a hit by pitch before getting another on a bases loaded walk. Segura then singled home another run and Wilkerson hit a sacrifice fly, another bases loaded hit by pitch then made it 5-0 at the end of the first. The Falcons scored three more in the second on a Chloe Grigsby single, a sacrifice fly from Segura and a double from Wilkerson, making it 9-0. Crumrin hit an RBI single in the third and another bases loaded walk made it 11-0. Segura hit an RBI single, Wilkerson hit a sacrifice fly and Savannah Darling drove in two more on a double. Morton Ranch got two runs in the bottom of the third on a Michelle Meeks triple and two more on an error. Tompkins added five more runs in the fourth to secure the run rule win.

Giselle Sanchez pitched for Morton Ranch and allowed 15 runs in three innings, walking six in the loss. The Mavericks fell to 4-17-1 overall and 0-12 in district after the loss.

Cinco overcomes Paetow

Cinco topped Paetow on Tuesday behind a late seventh inning surge to seal the win. They were led by Savannah Henningson, who had three RBIs and also pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out four, keeping the Cougars in fourth in district

Cinco got on the board in the top of the first inning, when Sydni Vandeventer hit a single that drove in one, but Paetow came back to tie it on a Jiselle Lopez double in the bottom of the inning. Cinco went back ahead in the third inning, scoring on a Ossie Cooper single before Lindsey DeLeon doubled in two runs. Paetow came back with two runs in the third inning on a Alexis Rodriguez single and a Lopez sacrifice fly, before Sophie Hassall drove in a run on a single in the fourth to bring Cinco’s lead back to two. Paetow scored twice in the fifth to tie it on an error and an Amanda Vasquez single, but Cinco took the lead back in the top of the sixth when Vandeventer hit an RBI double. Henningson then put things out of reach in the top of the seventh with a grand slam and Hassall capped it off with a sacrifice grounder before Cinco closed it out with a strong bottom of the seventh.

Lopez pitched 6.1 innings for Paetow, allowing eight runs on 13 hits while striking out one and walking two. Paetow fell to 15-17 overall and 5-8 in district.

Taylor outlasts Mayde Creek

Taylor stayed in second in district with a 7-3 win over Mayde Creek on Tuesday, improving to 18-10 overall and 11-2 in district play behind a strong performance from Ari Hughes, who pitched a complete game and struck out seven and walking four in the win.

The Rams struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on an error before Taylor tied it in the top of the third on a Izzy Allen single. Taylor added three more in the fourth on a Taylor Gray single and an error, Bethany Fan brought a fifth across on a ground out before the rams pulled one back in the fifth inning off an error. Kenna Irvin kept things going for Taylor with an RBI single in the sixth and after Mayde Creek answered with a run on a Julissa Aquino single in the bottom of the inning, Taylor got a run on an error in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach and clinch the win.

Shy’Lynn Brown pitched a complete game for Mayde Creek, allowing three earned runs on 13 hits while striking out three and walking three. The Rams fell to 4-13 overall and 3-8 in district.

Jordan holds on to beat Seven Lakes

Jordan used late runs to beat Seven Lakes 8-6, improving to 11-13 overall and 5-8 in district with the win. Lyra Berry and Ryan McIntosh had big days a the plate, with both driving in three runs while McIntosh also pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking five.

Seven Lakes struck first in the top of the first, scoring when Sarah Petree drove in a run on a single, and Seven Lakes doubled their lead in the second when Petree again drove in a run on a single. Jordan got one run back in the second on a steal of home by Aislyn Duhon, but Seven Lakes answered back in the fifth, getting a run on a solo home run by Dulce Franco and another on an error. Ryan McIntosh trimmed the lead to two in the fifth on an RBI single and Jordan kept it going in the sixth, making it a one run game when Madeline Jovanovic hit a single, before Berry drove in three runs on a double to give Jordan the lead and McIntosh drove in two more on a home run. Seven lakes scored twice in the seventh inning, getting one back on an error and another on a Michelle Taboada single, but the Spartans were unable to trim the lead further as Jordan held on for the win.

Ryma Chakraborty pitched 5.2 innings for Seven Lakes, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out four and walking four. The Spartans fell to 1-13 overall and 1-9 in district with the loss.
