Taylor overcame a game one loss to George Ranch in its bi-district series to beat the Longhorns two games to one, behind very strong pitching and good offense from the Mustangs.

Taylor fell 15-3 in the first game of the series. George Ranch took a four run lead in the first inning and that Taylor had a tough time responding too.

The Mustangs got one run in the second on an error and another in the same fashion in the third inning, Taylor then trimmed the lead to one in the fourth by scoring on a wild pitch. George Ranch though, responded with two runs in the fifth inning and nine in the sixth to close out the game.

Taylor though responded in huge fashion in game two, as the Mustangs put together a 12-0 run rule win.

Jared Schaeffer led the way in game two, as he pitched 4.2 innings of shutout ball and struck out six while walking two on five hits to earn the win.

Taylor took the lead in the first inning off a hit by pitch and never looked back. The Mustangs took control in the third inning. Camden Cahmpness hit an RBI single, driving in two and Adam Fitzgerald followed that up with an RBI double. Hunter Ham then hit an RBI double to make it 6-0.

Taylor added another run in the fourth off an error and then closed things out in the fifth. Brett Dolejsi hit a double, driving in a run to start the scoring that inning before Joe Jefferson Jr. reached on an error and another run scored. Schaeffer then drove in two on a double before Tyler Irving drove in a run on a single to cap off the scoring.

Game three, like game two was won behind strong pitching and offense from the Mustangs as they took it 8-1 to advance to the area round. Matthew Irwin was huge for the Mustangs on the bump, as he went six innings on the mound and didn’t allow an earned run on three hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Taylor took the lead in the second inning, as Nathaniel Lopez hit a double to drive in a run, but George Ranch came back to tie things in the top of the fourth.

That sparked a fire under Taylor. Jefferson led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and Champness took advantage of that with an RBI double as Taylor regained the lead. Peter Dworaczyk then hit an RBI single and Taylor scored another on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.

Champness drove in another in the fifth inning on a single before Dworaczyk hit an RBI single to drive in two more and Taylor capped things off with a run on an error.

Irwin pitched a clean sixth inning before Schaeffer came on in relief to close things out in the seventh.

Taylor advances to play Cy-Fair in the area round. Game one to be played 7:30 p.m. Thursday, game two to be played 5 p.m. Friday and game three to be played after game two if needed with all games at Langham Creek.
