Three volleyball players from Katy ISD competed in last weeks Class 5A-6A TGCA All-Star Volleyball Game, representing District 19-6A and Katy ISD after a strong year for the school district.
Tompkins Brooklynn Merrell, Seven Lakes’ Heidi Wingate and Cinco Ranch’s Kassie O’Brien were all named to the Blue Team of the All-Star Game and led the team to a three sets to none win in Arlington. All three will be entering their senior year this fall.
O’Brian was named Co-District 19-6A MVP in her junior year last season at Cinco Ranch and finished the year with 1385 assists, 388 digs, 137 kills, 22 blocks and 25 aces as the Cougars setter while helping her team reach the Class 6A state final after an undefeated district championship.
Wingate had a great season in her junior year at Seven Lakes, helping the Spartans reach the Region III-6A Final, she finished the season with 194 kills, 21 blocks, 54 digs, seven assists and one ace.
Merrell helped lead the Falcons to a second-place finish in district and a third round appearance in the playoffs. She had 496 digs, 134 assists, 102 aces and six kills on the season to help lead Tompkins, being named the district’s defensive player of the year in the process as all three had great years last year to earn spots on the team.
