“We’re just going to have to come out and get hot early,” Brewer said. “That’s the only choice we have. We need to get the bats going, put barrels on balls and put these guys away early, that’s the mindset we have to take going into it.”

Tompkins has been in this place before.
The Falcons are used to having their backs against the wall, having the pressure on and needing to respond to keep their season going.
It happened in the bi-district round and the Falcons reeled off two straight wins to keep their season alive, now that the Falcons are in the same situation in the area round, the team is confident they will respond in the same way. As Tompkins took game one of their series over Cy-Fair 2-0 before falling 4-0 to the Bobcats on Friday in a game that evened the series.
“We have full confidence because we know we can do this,” said senior first baseman Gavin Brewer. “Nothing is going to change, we’ve been through this before and we’ve come through it and that’s exactly what we plan to do again. That just makes us even more confident going into that third game.
It was a struggle for the Falcons in game two, especially on the offensive end as they managed just one hit and six base runners, with the teams only hit coming in the second inning. Tompkins defense and pitching kept them in the game though until the final innings.
Cy-Fair took the lead in the first inning on a fielders choice that drove in a run and it stayed 1-0 until the sixth inning. Cy-Fair got things going in the fifth by loading the bases with no outs and getting two runs on two bases loaded walks. Bo Caraway then hit an RBI single that made it a four run game and Tompkins was unable to come back in their final two innings of at bats.
“Their pitcher just filled up the zone and we weren’t able to find hits,” Brewer said. “I think we only had two base runners in the first six innings and that just can’t happen. He filled up the zone on us and did what he wanted and we just didn’t get it done at the plate today.”
The third game of the series will be played 1 p.m. Saturday at Langham Creek, with the winner advancing to the regional quarterfinals to face Katy. The Falcons know the key will be to get their bats going and they’re ready to go.
“We’re just going to have to come out and get hot early,” Brewer said. “That’s the only choice we have. We need to get the bats going, put barrels on balls and put these guys away early, that’s the mindset we have to take going into it.”
