Tompkins’ win over Katy shakes up state, national rankings

Posted

Tompkins’ 24-19 win over Katy High on Thursday, Nov. 5, significantly shook up the state and national high school football rankings this week.

In the Class 6A state rankings produced by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, Tompkins jumped up seven spots to No. 7, while Katy fell seven spots to No. 10.

In the MaxPreps Top 25 national rankings, the Falcons made their debut, coming in at No. 25 this week. The Tigers, who were ranked No. 6 nationally prior to the Tompkins game, are unranked.

It is Tompkins' first time to be ranked nationally in football.

Tompkins is 6-0 overall. Katy is 5-1. The Falcons’ win snapped the Tigers’ 75-game district winning streak—which had been the second-longest active streak in the state—and likely ends Katy’s incredible run as district champions at 11 consecutive years.

Tompkins has an open week this week. The Falcons play Mayde Creek on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at Legacy Stadium.

Katy plays Taylor (6-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rhodes Stadium.

“We’re 6-0, and that’s great, but starting (this week) we’re 0-0 and we’ve got to go 1-0 again,” Tompkins senior defensive back Colby Huerter said.
