Three people from Katy ISD were honored as Touchdown Club of Houston Finalists on Wednesday, taking home some of the top honors in the city of Houston in the yearly awards ceremony.

Three people from Katy ISD were honored as Touchdown Club of Houston Finalists on Wednesday, taking home some of the top honors in the city of Houston in the yearly awards ceremony.
Paetow’s Carmello Brooks, Mayde Creek’s Tobi Haastrup and Jordan’s Mike Rabe were all named as finalists for awards at the dinner, after each program had strong years this past season.
Rabe earned a coach of the year finalist award after leading Jordan to its best ever season. The Warriors went 11-2 overall and 7-1 in district, finishing second in district which is the programs highest finish ever and reaching the regional semifinal round of the playoffs for the first time as a program.
Haastrup, a defensive lineman earned a finalist award for defensive player of the year after bursting onto the scene in his first varsity season as a senior, earning 48 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 23 hurries and 11 sacks while having to be accounted for by offenses every game. He helped Mayde Creek to a 5-5 record and 3-5 district record as they improved overall and defensively this year.
Brooks was third in the district in sacks and helped lead Paetow to its best season since joining the Class 6A ranks. Paetow ended the year with a 7-4 record and 6-2 district record, with the Paetow defense and Brooks leading the way to help with the Panthers improvement.
North Shore quarterback Kaleb Bailey was named the Touchdown Club of Houston’s Offensive Player of the Year, while Cy-Falls linebacker Kaleb Burns was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Randle head coach and former Mayde Creek head coach Brian Randle was named the Coach of the Year.
The Touchdown Club is the Houston chapter of the National Football Foundation. Founded in 1947 with leadership from General Douglas MacArthur, legendary Army coach Earl “Red” Blaik and immortal journalist Grantland Rice, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, a non-profit educational organization, organizes programs designed to use the importance of high school football in developing scholarship, citizenship and athletic achievement for young people.
