Robertson Elementary School, 7400 Innovation Drive, is Katy ISD’s newest school. It opened last month, and is one of several designed by VLK Architects of Fort Worth.

These completed projects are the result of school districts fulfilling the promises made to their communities through passed bonds.

Robertson Elementary cost $30.8 million to build and was paid for by a bond approved by voters in 2021. It is a 137,674-square-foot building with 49 classrooms. It also features the latest technology in those classrooms, including Chromebooks, iPads, and Smart Panels.

Robertson is Katy ISD’s 44th elementary school and is in the Cane Island subdivision. Much of the district’s growth has taken place there. The school has an enrollment of about 700 students.

Todd Lien, VLK managing partner, said the anticipation of a new school is exciting.

“Whether this is a renovation of an older campus or a brand-new school to address the tremendous growth that our clients are experiencing, we work with them to provide innovative, imaginative, and cost-effective solutions for their communities,” Lien said. “Seeing these projects come to life on the first day of school is a highlight for us.”

Working across 20-plus districts serving more than half a million students, VLK has helped each community to deliver the promise of an approved bond—educational facilities that unlock the ability for students to maximize their potential.

Royse City ISD has replaced Cherry Elementary School with a brand-new campus described as “beautiful and intelligent” by Superintendent Kevin Worthy. "The team at VLK took the vision of our community and created an absolutely beautiful and intelligent learning environment for the students at Ruth Cherry Elementary,” he said. “From added safety features in classrooms, to breakout learning spaces and creative aesthetics, I am so proud of the final product. Most importantly, I know that our amazing educators will use the space to build meaningful relationships with students and families for years to come."

Brazosport ISD Superintendent Danny Massey shared his enthusiasm about the new Brazoswood High School on Facebook saying, “We are so excited to open a new Brazoswood High School, continuing great traditions and providing outstanding experiences for students!”

In addition to Robertson Elementary, Cherry Elementary and Brazoswood High School, VLK is celebrating the successful completion of campuses across the state. Notable projects completed to start this school year include:

  • Allen ISD’s Ereckson Middle School
  • Austin ISD’s Brentwood Elementary School
