This year, National Wreaths Across America Day will be held on Saturday, December 14. Join the more than two million volunteers and supporters who will gather to “remember, honor and teach” at more than 4,600 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad, according to the Wreaths Across America website. The event theme for 2024 is “Live with Purpose.”

"Over the course of the last year, and then especially on the escort to Arlington last December, I listened to people who had gone through great adversity, and they'd taken that adversity and turned it around as a call to action to spend the rest of their lives making sure that every day was meaningful and that they lived with purpose, said Karen Worcester, Executive Director, on the group’s website.

Locally, the Wreaths Across America is being coordinated by American Legion Post 164. The organization will be laying wreaths at Magnolia Cemetery, 6801 Franz Road in Katy from 10 to 11 a.m. on December 14. After a short ceremony, volunteers will lay wreaths on the graves of over 550 veterans buried there.

The ceremony is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Volunteers should follow the location coordinators’ instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as how they should be placed. The organization also needs volunteers to help with clean-up after the event; interested individuals should check in with the location coordinator for clean-up instructions.
