Reports of a large sewage break at Fulshear High on November 7 have been greatly exaggerated, school officials say.
An anonymous parent contacted the Katy Times shortly after noon to report that hallways at the school at 9302 Charger Way in Fulshear were flooded with sewage and that some students were covered in feces but were not being permitted to leave the campus or to change clothes.
“We want to clarify that the incident this morning involved a burst water pipe in the 1300 hall that affected only domestic water,” Lamar CISD’s communications officer, Sonya Cole-Hamilton told the Katy Times. “There was no sewage break, and reports suggesting that students were exposed to fecal matter and not allowed to change clothes are unfounded and inaccurate. Our maintenance team responded immediately to assess and begin necessary repairs.”
The campus was placed on a “hold” to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff while the situation was addressed, Hamilton said. “During the incident, water that leaked through the ceiling did come into contact with insulation and other construction materials, which may have led to discolored water and debris falling, but at no time were health or safety compromised beyond the initial water leak.”
