Katy ISD officials said Cardiff Junior High School will be on a regular schedule tomorrow following the evacuation of the campus earlier this afternoon in response to the discovery of a suspicious package in the school cafeteria.

Students were evacuated from the junior high school, at 3900 Dayflower Dr., to Mayde Creek High School, 19202 Groeschke Road, which is about three miles away.

In a statement, Katy ISD said it was made aware of a small item located in the school’s cafeteria area that appeared to be smoking. Out of an abundance of caution, the campus immediately evacuated the building and called upon emergency personnel to investigate the item.

Katy ISD said that at no time was a threat made, nor were there any student or staff injuries in connection to the report and investigation.

Investigating teams have since reported that the item was of no threat to the campus and did not have the capability to cause bodily injury.

The district said the campus is being cleared by law enforcement personnel. The campus will be on schedule for a regular school day tomorrow.
