Waller County Sheriff investigating Waller Harris Counties ESD No. 200 financial reports

Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry said Monday his office is investigating allegedly fraudulent financial reports from the Waller Harris County Emergency Services District No. 200.

In a statement, the district said it submitted the results of an internal investigation for criminal examination. It said it would support the sheriff’s office through the investigation and what actions it decides to take.

The district said it received information in June that showed several district credit card statements had been altered before being submitted for review, and that district financial reports were fraudulent.

A consequence of this, the district said, was that the district’s board of commissioners and command staff received false financial information at regular public meetings.

District management confronted a suspected employee with initial evidence, but he was unwilling to cooperate with an investigation and resigned.

District management continued its investigation and decided there was enough documentation to justify bringing in an outside auditing team. This team began reviewing transactions from the fall of 2020 to summer of 2022, the district said.

The district said the auditing team’s results claimed that there were at least $30,000 of goods and services misappropriated using the district’s accounts over the two-year period reviewed.

The sheriff’s office has the materials and is continuing its investigation.
