Katy girls take bronze at state cross country meet

Katy’s girls cross country team continued its dominant run and closed out its season in huge fashion, claiming the bronze medal and staking their claim as one of the top teams in the entire state.

Katy’s girls cross country team continued its dominant run and closed out its season in huge fashion, claiming the bronze medal and staking their claim as one of the top teams in the entire state.

Katy had all five of its finishers that counted towards the team score finish in the top 60. Victoria Guerrero was the teams top finisher, finishing 26th in the race, while Lauren Acopa finished 45th, Vienna Fish finished 55th, Abby Lester finished 59th and Avery Torrey finished 60th.

Mayde Creek’s Jamie Klander was the top finisher from Katy ISD on either the boys or girls side as she came in 12th place for the entire state, while her twin sister Claudie Klander finished 23rd. As a team, the Rams came in 12th place in their first ever state appearance, with Ava Gonzalez finishing 111th, Sophia Ilagan finishing 113th and Denise Perez finishing 145th.

Jordan was the final girls team finisher in Katy ISD, earning the No. 16 spot as a team. Alice Frame finished 84th overall for the Warriors, while Lilah Katz finished 118th, Alejandra Sabgini finished 127th, Emmy Hardin finished 131st and Brooklyn Allen finished 142nd.

Individually, Taylor’s Caroline Barrow finished 33rd, while Casey Scherpereel finished 49th for the Mustangs to cap off the day on the girls side for Katy ISD.

On the boys side, Tompkins led the way for Katy ISD by finishing 12th as a team. The Falcons got a strong performance from Mathias Pitzel, who finished 33rd overall, while Carter Malloy came in 80th, Jordan Wood came in 93rd, Diego Reyes cam in 107th and Aaron Ramshaw came in 123rd.

Katy was the other school to make it to the state tournament as a team from Katy ISD and the Tigers came in 15th overall. Ryder Darcey led the way with an 81st place finish, while Joshua Perez came in 85th, Evan Couture came in 91st, Payton Patters came in 127th and Benjamin Robins came in 132nd.

Individually, Elijah Emerson from Paetow had the second highest finish of anyone in Katy ISD on the boys side by coming in 35th, while Cinco Ranch’s Alex Hahn Vadstein came in 56th, Taylor’s Michael Klahn came in 58th and Seven Lakes Samuel Garcia Camejo came in 99th to cap off all of the Katy ISD finishers.

To finish things off for the school district, Freeman had its first person ever compete in the state championships at the 4A level and Imani Boakye came in 78th overall on the girls side.
