After two month of battling and fighting for a top four spot, the Katy ISD playoff field was decided on Tuesday night in a race that came all the way down to the wire.
Cinco Ranch took home the district championship and dominated it’s matches, leading the district for most of the season and going unbeaten in District 19-6A to claim its second straight district title. The Cougars the regular season winning 48 sets while dropping just two sets throughout the district schedule. The Cougars finished 31-5 overall and 16-0 in district to claim the crown and the top seed in the Division I playoffs out of district.

The Falcons finished 28-13 overall and 13-3 in district play on the year and will look to make their mark in Division II in the first year of split playoffs. The Falcons only district losses came to Cinco Ranch and a split series with Taylor and the Falcons will be in a good spot in the playoff race because of it.
Seven Lakes claimed third place out of the district and the second seed in Division I from the playoffs after a strong season. The Spartans finished the regular season with a 29-10 record and an 11-5 record in district, they dropped both of their matchups against Cinco Ranch and Tompkins, but the Spartans only other loss came against Taylor as they were able to secure the No. 3 spot and an important playoff spot in the process.
Jordan locked up the final playoff spot in district, clinching it with the head to head tie breaker over Taylor, as the Mustangs also ended the year with the same district record. The Warriors finished 20-19 overall and 9-7 in district to earn a spot in playoffs for the second straight year. The Warriors were swept by Cinco Ranch, Tompkins and Seven Lakes, but only lost one other match, to Katy and swept Taylor. That sweep over Taylor was the differentiator and got Jordan the final spot in the playoffs and the second spot in the Division II bracket.
Taylor came so close to a playoff spot, only falling short based on the tiebreaker with Jordan after a good season where the Mustangs were competitive to the end. Taylor finished the year 25-14 overall and 9-7 in district. They had good performances throughout, including beating Seven Lakes and Tompkins, but losing twice to Jordan and a loss to Katy made things too hard for the Mustangs to overcome, as they fell by just the tiebreaker.
Katy finished in sixth place with a 21-21 record and an 8-8 record in district play, the Tigers remained competitive all year and fell short of the final playoff team by just one game.
Paetow finished seventh with a 13-27 overall record and 4-12 district record, while Mayde Creek finished eighth with an overall record of 9-29 and a 2-14 record in district, while Morton Ranch finished ninth with a 9-31 record and a 0-16 record in district.
Cinco Ranch will get Alief Taylor in the first round of the playoffs for its efforts. The Cougars made a run all the way to the state final last year and will be looking to make another deep run this season. They come into the playoffs having won 16 straight matches and on a roll, having only dropped two sets throughout district
Tompkins will face off against George Ranch in the opening round of the playoffs of Class 6A-Division II as the Falcons try to keep their season going as well. George Ranch comes into the playoffs with a 23-17 record and a 6-4 record in district. George Ranch has won three straight matches heading into the playoffs and will be confident. Tompkins, meanwhile, also heads into the playoffs on the back of a 3-match winning streak. The Falcons come in as the higher seed and will be trying to make another run in the playoffs after making it three rounds deep last season.
Seven Lakes will match up with a tough Fulshear squad in the bi-district round of the Class 6A-Division I playoffs. Fulshear enters the playoffs with a 33-6 record and a 10-0 record in district and are ranked No. 10 in the state of Texas by the TGCA. Fulshear has won 10 straight matches heading into the playoffs and did not drop a set throughout its district schedule. The Spartans meanwhile, have won two straight matches heading into the playoffs and will be trying to repeat its success from last year, where they went on a run all the way to the regional final as the district’s third seed.
Jordan will get Foster in its first playoff game in the Class 6A-Division II bracket. Foster comes into the match with a 29-10 overall record and a 9-2 district record, only losing to Fulshear on its district schedule. Foster lost its last match out, which was against Fulshear before heading into the playoffs. Jordan heads into the playoffs having won its previous two matches and will be trying to win its first ever playoff game, coming close last year before falling to Ridge Point in five sets in the bi-district round.
