Katy Police arrested a 28-year-old Houston man and charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
At about 9:15 a.m. Feb. 1, Katy Police officers received a Flock license plate reader notification in their patrol cars indicating a wanted vehicle from a previous theft case had recently entered the 25100 block of Market Place Drive.
Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. As the officers made their initial approach, the driver threw an object out of the open passenger window, which was later found to be a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
Upon identifying the driver as Cordell McCarter and detaining him, police learned that he was a convicted felon. McCarter was placed in custody without incident and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
During the inventory of the vehicle, a second loaded 9mm pistol was recovered, along with narcotics.
McCarter was taken to the Harris County Jail, where he posted a $5,000 bond, according to court records.
