KISD new School photos Freeman High School and Nelson Junior High
Freeman High School, which opened at 7800 Katy Hockley Rd. in Katy on August 14, is the tenth high school in Katy ISD and will serve the burgeoning population of the northwest quadrant of the district, relieving enrollment pressures on Paetow High School and Katy High School. The school is named for the Freeman family, deeply ingrained in Katy's history, who have been prominent in civic leadership, with members serving as mayor, city council members, and contributing to the volunteer fire department and school board. Beyond civic engagement, the Freeman's have a longstanding connection to agriculture and education, dating back to the late 19th century. The school’s mascot will be the Golden Eagles. Freeman’s principal is Gina Cobb.

Nelson Junior High School – the 18th and latest Katy ISD middle school – is also named for early Katy settlers. The Nelson family history spans across five generations in the Katy area, with family members having graduated from Katy ISD, served on the Board of Trustees, and been deeply involved in various district programs such as FFA. The Nelson’s connection to the land that Nelson Junior High is built on is unique, since the family purchased the land generations ago from a beloved Katy ISD schoolteacher. Kara Morgan is the principal for the school, whose mascot is the Hawks. The campus is located at 25747 Longenbaugh Road in Katy, adjacent to Freeman High School and Youngblood Elementary,
