In recognition of their impressive accomplishment, Katy ISD’s National Merit Semifinalists were honored by trustees and leaders ahead of the Board’s regular meeting on October 28, the district announced in a press release.

“The district boasts 96 Semifinalists who are now being considered for the coveted distinction of National Merit Finalist,” the October 28 release said. “As juniors, these students scored among the highest in Texas on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). They, along with the other Semifinalists, represent a mere one percent of students who took the exam.”

“Millions of students nationwide participate in the exam each year, and so to be among the percentage of students named semifinalists is no small feat,” said Sanée Bell, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning in Katy ISD. “We are proud of these students for being among the nation’s best.”

National Merit Finalists will be announced in the spring, and among them will be students awarded corporate and college-sponsored scholarships. Visit www.nationalmerit.org to learn more.
