Royal’s Reagins named THSCA Regional Coach of the Year

Posted

Brookshire Royal head coach Theadis Reagins was named the recipient of the first ever Texas High School Coaches Association Football Regional Coach of the Year Award on Tuesday.

Head coaches from each region around the state were recognized and Reagins was named the Region VI-4A head coach of the year, while Royal offensive coordinator Phil Wilson was named the assistant coach of the year for Region VI-4A.

The two were named coaches of the year after a terrific season for the Falcons, which was their best season since 2010, in which they finished with a 9-2 overall record and mad the bi-district round of the playoffs.

Royal lost only one game in district play, going 5-1 and finishing second to Silsbee as they continued to improve under Riggins. The Falcons averaged 34 points while giving up under 14 points on average in the regular season. The Falcons fell in the first round of the playoffs but showed lots of improvement and look to be in just as good of a spot for next season.

Only one other Houston area coach was named as a coach of the year, in New Caney head coach Travis Reeve.
