Seven Lakes girls finish 6th at state

Seven Lakes’ girls golf team finished sixth at the Class 6A state tournament May 10-11 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown. The Spartans were the top finishers among Greater Houston area teams, ahead of The Woodlands (ninth) and Kingwood (10th).

Seven Lakes girls finish 6th at state

Seven Lakes’ girls golf team finished sixth at the Class 6A state tournament May 10-11 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown. The Spartans were the top finishers among Greater Houston area teams, ahead of The Woodlands (ninth) and Kingwood (10th).

Seven Lakes posted a two-day score of 623, shooting 310 on Day 1 and 313 on Day 2. The Spartans struggled to finish after a strong start to the tournament. Lewisville Hebron won the team title with a 598 (299-299). San Angelo Central’s Ryann Honea was the individual girls champion with a score of 143.

Seven Lakes sophomore Maelynn Kim tied for fifth individually with a two-day score of 146 (74-72). Also competing for the Spartans were Region III champ and Texas A&M signee Lauren Nguyen (tied for 16th, 151), senior Grayson Heilman (tied for 37th, 156), and freshmen Floortje Rademaker (tied for 67th, 174) and Kay Song (tied for 67th, 174).

Seven Lakes was coming off its third straight Region III team title.

Cinco Ranch junior Mallorie Lutweiler finished 36th at state with a two-day score of 155. The Region III runner-up shot a 76 on Day 1 and 79 on Day 2.

At the 6A boys state tournament May 17-18, Tompkins junior Colt Tenpenny finished tied for 60th with a two-day score of 160. Tenpenny had a rough Day 1, shooting 83, before rebounding nicely on Day 2 with a 77.

Tenpenny was the Region III champion and is Tompkins’ first boys state qualifier.

Katy sophomore Reese Tortone tied for 64th with a two-day score of 163. Tortone shot 82 on Day 1 and 81 on Day 2.

Keller junior Kaelen Dulany won the boys individual title with a 138. Austin Westlake won the team title with a 568 (283-285).
