Taylor (2-7, 1-6) vs. Tompkins (5-4, 4-3), 6:30 p.m. at Legacy Stadium
Last year: Tompkins 48, Taylor 13
- Taylor closes out its season against a Tompkins team that has secured a playoff spot heading into the final week of the season with both trying to regular season on a strong note.
Taylor comes off a 41-21 loss to Paetow last game and will be looking to bounce back against the Falcons. The Mustangs got three touchdowns in the game, one on an 80-yard touchdown from Garrett Barham to Josh Jacobson, another on a Xavier Haynes 80-yard run and a final touchdown on a 14-yard pass from Barham to Moaz Sabek. Taylor’s defense struggled to contain a playoff bound Paetow team, allowing 41 points, but they can take some momentum into this week after a good offensive performance.
Tompkins meanwhile comes into the game after losing to Katy last time out. The Falcons had some good things they did on both ends of the ball, but weren’t able to capitalize on them in the loss. Tompkins had over 200 yards of total offense and Justin Thierheimer threw for 156 yards, but every time the Falcons were close to the endone, they were stopped and Tompkins was shut out at the end of things. On defense they receovered a fumble and forced a turnover on downs against Katy, but the Tigers were able to control the game and score 35 points.
It will be a game where Tompkins will try to build on things, continue to do well offensively and try to get things down defensively before playoffs, while the Mustangs will try to build on their last game, clean up some things defensively and try to close out the season with a win.
Jordan (8-1, 6-1) vs. Paetow (7-2, 6-1) 7 p.m. at Rhodes Stadium
Last year: Jordan 26, Paetow 8
- This game features two teams that secured their spots in their playoff spots and their position in the playoffs, with Paetow being locked into the second seed in Division I and Jordan being locked into the first seed of Division I.
Jordan comes off its bye and will be trying to claim to put together a good performance before playoffs start. The Warriors beat Taylor last time out and got good performances from the offense with a 1-yard touchdown from Chad Gasper, touchdown runs of 96-yards and 40-yards from Beau Bryant and a 53-yard touchdown pass from Bryant to Zach Taylor. The Warriors only allowed three points on defense as well and continued to impress on that side of the ball.
Paetow meanwhile comes off a 41-21 win over Taylor and had a good day both passing and running the ball on offense, getting back in rhythm after the teams first district loss of the season to Katy. The Panthers defense did good as well, shutting Taylor out in the first half and not allow points until the game was in hand in the second half. .
While their playoff positions are secure, it will be a game where second place in district is decided. It would be highest finish for either team since they entered District 19-6A and it should be a good game featuring two strong teams.
