Thursday

Paetow (3-2, 2-1) vs. Katy (6-0, 4-0), 6 p.m. at Legacy Stadium

• Katy has continued to pull away from the pack through four weeks of District 19-6A play.
  The Tigers come off another dominant win, this one over Jordan, as the Tigers continue to improve and cement themselves as the district’s frontrunner. Katy led from start to finish in their 70-21 win over Jordan.
  The most impressive part of the win for Katy was that they did it without arguably their most impactful offensive player in Seth Davis. Dallas Glass, stepped right in for Katy and kept there from being la drop-off. Glass rushed for 193 yards and four touchdowns in just the first half as Katy put up 49 points and gave up just seven in the first half.
  Glass was at the front of the success but wasn’t alone, as Micah Koenig returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown and a kick 97-yards for touchdowns.
  The Tigers defense also stepped up in a big way, holding Jordan to just 35 yards and just over 200 yards of total offense, slowing down an offense that had been on a torrent pace through their first two district games.
  Paetow, meanwhile is in the battle with many other teams to stay in the playoff race.
  The Panthers come off their bye week and will need to bounce back after having a bad performance against Jordan in their last game.
  The Panthers stayed with Jordan for two quarters before the Warriors completely pulled away in the second half in what turned into a big deficit for Paetow. Adding to things, Paetow had to turn to their backup quarterback, which was not something that the team was wanting to do, especially with an offense that had struggled to move the football.
  Paetow ended the day with 159 yards through the air, but only 50 on the ground, with Jamarius Bates leading the team with 22 yards rushing. The run game has been a struggle for Paetow throughout the year and will be something they need to improve on if they are to compete for a playoff spot in district the rest of the way.
  And Paetow will need that run game against Katy, as the Tigers have been especially stingy against teams pass games and limiting them through the air.
  Meanwhile Katy will hope that Davis is healed up and ready to go and will be looking to show dominance up front, even with going against that ferocious Paetow front seven.

Jordan (3-2, 2-1) vs. Cinco Ranch (4-2, 3-1) 7 p.m. at Rhodes Stadium

• Jordan suffered their first big setback of the year last week against Katy.
  The Warriors came into the game as hyped and amped as could be, but after going down by two scored in less than four minutes, everything fell apart for the Warriors in the game.
  It turned into a huge loss, where Jordan allowed 70 points and over 311 yards on the ground, as Katy’s offense dictated the game all day. Meanwhile, Jordan’s offense couldn’t get anything going in the game, passing for 184 yards and rushing for just 35 yards in total.
  It was a learning experience for Jordan and the question now will be how they respond to it. The team has never gone through a loss like this and will have to respond to It if they want to keep pace and challenge a very good Cinco Ranch team.
  Cinco Ranch meanwhile, got exactly the bounce back they needed with a huge offensive performance against Mayde Creek.
  It was the Cinco run game that led the way, with Sam McKnight leading the way, rushing for 80 yards and three scores, while Brandon Arroyave rushed for 84 yards and Eric Eckstrom rushed for 53. Gavin Rutherford added 206 yards passing with Seth Salverino, Fischer Reed and Aadi Patel all making big impacts in the receiving game.
  The Cinco Ranch defense most importantly got back to playing strong defense. Mayde Creek was unable to move the ball either on the ground or through the air and the Cougars forced two turnovers as well as keeping Mayde Creek off the field with a number of three and outs.
  For both teams it will come down to what their defenses can do. Both Jordan and Cinco Ranch can throw the ball all over the field and have good complimentary run games, but both defenses will be looking to make a statement and slow down the other teams powerhouse offenses.

Friday

Taylor (2-3, 1-2) vs. Morton Ranch (4-2, 2-2) 6 p.m. at Legacy Stadium

Last year: Morton Ranch 28, Taylor 7

• Morton Ranch heads into this week having got back on track in district play and in the thick of the playoff hunt.
  The Mavericks followed up their shootout win over Cinco Ranch with a win over Seven Lakes, falling behind early but coming from behind to secure a big victory.
  Santana Scott was at the forefront of the win, as the senior rushed for 190 yards and a score to go with 22 receiving yards, and Josh Johnson continued his strong play, passing for 173 yards and a score to go with two rushing touchdowns on the ground. Ryan Hall also had two rushing scores while Mike Gerald caught five passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.
  The win puts Morton Ranch right in the playoff race, as they sit tied for fifth place and just half a game back of the third and fourth place teams in district, and they will look to keep pace with another win on Friday.
  Taylor meanwhile, needs to continue winning to stay in the playoff race. Taylor struggled last week against Tompkins, putting up under 250 yards of offense and only 73 yards on the ground.
  Joe Jefferson was limited on the day by the Tompkins defense, throwing for 72 yards and rushing for 10, while Dante Archie finished with 50 yards rushing on the day, meanwhile, the Mustangs defense was unable to keep Tompkins from scoring from the get go, as the Falcons had 21 points in the first quarter and 35 total first half points.
  Taylor’s defense will need to step up this game if the Mavericks hope to challenge Morton Ranch, while the Taylor offense will have to pound things on the ground and control the clock throughout.

Seven Lakes (0-5, 0-3) vs. Mayde Creek (2-4, 0-4)

Last year: Seven Lakes 50, Mayde Creek 10

• In a battle of the final two winless district teams, one will take home a victory on Friday night.
  Seven Lakes will be mad about the way they’ve lost two of their district games and especially how they lost last week against Morton Ranch.
  Seven Lakes jumped out to a 14 point lead in the first quarter but were unable to do anything to hold on, giving up 27 straight points to lose their third straight district game.
  Tanner Perez threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns in the game, with Marcel Davis again having a fantastic night, catching seven passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. Jake Farris led the rushing attack with 20 carries for 71 yards, but the Spartans were never able to get anything going on the ground.
  Mayde Creek meanwhile, continued to struggle in a loss to Mayde Creek. The Rams gave up over 450 yards of total offense and turned it over twice while never getting going on offense themselves.
  The Rams will look to get something going with both of their qb’s and force turnovers defensively, while Seven Lakes will try to keep things going offensively while not giving up big plays on defense.
