Katy ISD will again have its own UIL Class 6A district in every sport for the next two years, as the nine-team district remained in the 2024-2026 district realignment announced on Thursday by the University Interscholastic League.

It will be the same district as fans are used to, with the Katy teams staying in District 19-6A. Cinco Ranch has the highest student population with 3,790 students followed by Paetow (3,746), Seven Lakes (3,591), Katy (3520), Taylor (3,209), Jordan (3,133), Tompkins (3,071), Mayde Creek (3,025) and Morton Ranch (2,863).

All were comfortably in Class 6A, with the cutoff for 5A being at 2,275. It’s the fourth straight realignment where Katy schools have had their own district in Class 6A, and the second realignment in a row in which the district will have nine schools from Katy ISD in District 19-6A.

Freeman High School, which will open in the fall, will be the 10^th Katy ISD High School. Freeman has an enrollment of 861, but will not be aligned to a district until the 2026 realignment.

The biggest change for Katy ISD will come with what teams the district will face early in the playoffs. For the past few realignments, District 20-6A has consisted of Fort Bend ISD schools, including Ridge Point, Hightower and Austin. But with this next realignment that will change to a mixture of Alief and Lamar Consolidated schools. In all it will be a district consisting of Alief Elsik, Alief Hastings, Alief Taylor, Stake Jesuit, Fulshear, Richmond Foster and George Ranch. Those will be the schools that Katy ISD teams will face in the bi-district round of the playoffs for the next two years which is a huge change from the Fort Bend ISD schools which Katy ISD previously faced early in the playoffs.

Royal, which had a student population of 892, was once again placed in Class 4A-Division II and will compete in District 10 out of Region III. The Falcons are joined in the district by Wharton, Sweeny, West Columbia, La Marque, Harmony School of Innovation West and Katy Harmony. Harmony School of Innovation had an enrollment of 855 and Katy Harmony had an enrollment of 790.
