Baseball Roundup: Cinco wins sixth straight, Taylor, Seven Lakes have dominant wins

Cinco Ranch continued its winning ways Thursday, winning its sixth straight game, while Taylor and Seven Lakes had run rule wins and Katy topped Paetow.

Baseball Roundup: Cinco wins sixth straight, Taylor, Seven Lakes have dominant wins

Cinco Ranch continued its winning ways Thursday, winning its sixth straight game, while Taylor and Seven Lakes had run rule wins and Katy topped Paetow.

Cinco downs Jordan

Cinco Ranch earned its sixth straight win on Thursday, beating Jordan 8-2 and improving to 15-5-3 on the season and 6-3 in district. The Cougars were led by Dylan Muniz, who had two RBIs in the game and Ethan Muniz, who pitched a complete game and allowed two runs and six hits while striking out seven and walking none.

Dylan Muniz drove in the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first, hitting a double that drove in two before Zach Franco hit a single to drive in another. Cinco scored a fourth I the second inning on an error, but Jordan came back to score on a Luis Vera single in the top of the third and Connor Carmichael hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to trim Cinco’s lead to 4-2. Cinco came back in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a sacrifice grounder and an error to bring their lead back to four and an error that scored a run and a Lucas Franco RBI triple in the sixth inning made it 8-2 Cougars. Cinco didn’t let another run score the rest of the way to clinch the win.

The Warriors two RBIs came from Vera and Carmichael and Thomas Eugatetook the mound and went four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking four. The Warriors fell to 11-9 on the season and 4-3 in district with the loss.

Taylor run rules Mayde Creek

Taylor earned a 12-0 win over Morton Ranch in a run rule win, moving to 15-10-1 on the season and 5-3 in district. Zach Larsen drove in three runs in the win while Peter Dworaczyk drove in two, Bryce Krenek pitched four innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four and walking none.

Taylor got on the board in the second inning when Chase Marshall walked with the bases loaded. Larsen followed that up with a single that drove in two and Dworaczyk capped off the inning with a sacrifice grounder that made it 4-0. Taylor scored another on a passed ball in the third before David Harris brought in two runs on a single, Larsen hit a sacrifice fly and Dworaczyk hit an RBI double and a bases loaded walk increased Taylor to 10-0. A Carlos Gamboa sacrifice fly drove in another in the fourth inning and a run on a passed ball closed things out before the Taylor defense and pitching clinched the win in the top of the fifth.

Jerry Gutierrez started on the mound and went 2.1 innings for Morton Ranch, allowing seven earned runs on five hits while walking five. Morton Ranch fell to 6-17-1 overall and 0-9 in district with the loss.

Seven Lakes downs Mayde Creek

Seven Lakes clinched a run rule win over Mayde Creek, winning 13-2 and improving to 13-9-2 and 5-4 in district play. Eric Montana had a huge day at the plate, driving in four runs, while Riley Sherowski drove pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out five and walking three.

Dario Becerra hit a double for the Spartans first run in the bottom of the first on a double and Montana drove in their second on a double of his own. A third came across on a wild pitch and Seven Lakes made it 4-0 on a dropped third strike. The Spartans kept it going in the fifth inning, scoring on two different errors and a single, before a sacrifice grounder made it 9-0 Spartans. Max Greathouse drove in the teams 10th run in the third inning on a single, with the Spartans getting two more on a Montana double and their final run on a passed ball. Mayde Creek got two runs back in the fifth inning on a Marcus Rodriguez double but that was all as the Spartans clinched the win.

Rodriguez drove in both of Mayde Creek’s runs in the loss, while Arthur Jenkins pitched 1.1 innings for the Rams, allowing six runs on three hits while striking out one and walking five. Mayde Creek fell to 2-19-1 overall and 0-9 in district with the loss.

Katy beats Paetow

Katy continued its strong district play on Thursday, beating Paetow 5-1 to improve to 15-8 overall and 8-1 in district play. Aaron Brashear pitched a huge game for Katy, going six innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits while striking out 12 and walking three. Blake Davila and Kaleb Harrison led the way offensively with the two accounting for both of Katy’s RBIs.

Katy got their first run on an error in the first inning and it stayed that way until the fourth inning, when another error got Katy’s second run across. Harrison drove in a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly but Paetow answered in the top of the sixth, getting a run on a passed ball. Katy came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, on a Davila single and a balk by Paetow and Katy clinched it with a clean top half of the seventh.

Elijah Chisam pitched for Paetow and went 5.1 innings, allowing no earned runs on five hits while striking out six and walking five. Paetow fell to 16-5 overall and 5-2 in district with the loss.
