Carl Phillip Borchers was born on March 13, 1945, in Temple, Texas to Chester Hugo Emil Borchers and Frances Louise Clark Borchers. He married the love of his life, Dolores Lynn Duderstadt on March 29, 1969, in Kerrville, Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and had a distinguished career in law enforcement in the Houston area. He was an award recipient of the 100 Club of Houston in 1976. Carl was a Major with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, in Houston, when he retired in 2002. In addition to serving the citizens of Harris County, Texas, Carl served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Carl’s priorities were God – Family – Country. He was very spiritual and patriotic. Carl was a steadfast honest man with unwavering morals. He loved history and learning about historical places and events. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and Houston sports. He cherished his time at the family ranch in Harper. Most of all, his greatest joy in life was being Claire’s father and a grandfather to his two granddaughters, Reece and Emma.
Carl Phillip Borchers passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in Katy, Texas at the age of 78 years. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores Borchers of Katy, Texas; daughter, Claire Renfro and her husband Ryan of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Reece Renfro and Emma Renfro; brother, Larry Borchers of Shamrock, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Carl will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was loyal, faithful, and dedicated to his family, friends, and work. His courage served him well when facing life’s challenges, especially health related ones later in life.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Schmidt Funeral Home East Avenue Chapel, in Katy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Harper United Methodist Church, 23305 West U.S. Hwy. 290, Harper, Texas 78631, with Rev. Neal Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the Harper Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, New York 10016, www.kidneywalk.org, Katy First United Methodist, 5601 Fifth Street, Katy, Texas 77493, www.katyfirst.org, or to the Harper Cemetery Association, 162 Bobbie Lynn, Harper, Texas 78631, or to another chosen charity.
