In Monday night’s city council meeting, the council awarded a bid to Hayden paving of Houston for street improvements in the Town Park subdivision. The project, approved for $1,095,639.50, will primarily focus on street resurfacing but will also address some drainage issues, said ARKK Engineer David Kaspar. The project is scheduled to begin in early May and to be completed by the end of July, Kaspar said.

The council also authorized a $99,625.00 proposal for ARKK Engineers, LLC for design and construction phase services for the rehabilitation of the water well and ground store tank at City of Katy Water Plant No. 3 at 25815 Kingsland Blvd., which services the Katy Mills Mall area and the portion of the city south of I-10. The equipment for the water well will be replaced and the ground storage tank is to be repainted and to receive a new roof.

By special proclamations, the mayor and council recognized several events in April:

· Recognized April as “Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Month,” with Mayor Thiele awarding the proclamation to members of Katy Christian Ministries’ Crisis Center, and declaring Wednesday, April 24th as “Denim Day” to help raise awareness.

· Recognized April as “Autism Awareness Month” in a proclamation read by Councilmember Rory Robertson.

· Recognized April 14-20 as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week in a proclamation read by Mayor Pro Tem Harris, who presented the proclamation to the city’s dispatchers.

· Recognized April 20 as “Relay for Life Day” in a proclamation read by the mayor.

The next meeting of the city council will be April 22 at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 901 Avenue C in Katy.
