Sarah “Sally” Francis Stewart Gillespie, 72, from Katy, Texas went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 22, 2023. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. Sally was married to Jan Thurston Gillespie for over 50 years and lived in Greenville, SC for most of her younger years. She has been a resident of Katy, Texas since 1988. Sally touched many lives as an elementary school teacher until her retirement in 2017. She taught at Nottingham and Fielder Elementary Schools, just to name a few. She was also a member of Kingsland Baptist Church.
Sally Gillespie was the daughter of the late Sudie Francis Stewart and Denton “Red” Stewart. Sally Gillespie is survived by her husband, Jan Thurston Gillespie, her son, Michael Thurston Gillespie and his wife, Sheri Gillespie, grandsons, Blake and Preston of Katy, Texas, her daughter, Carolyn Gillespie Drechsel and her husband, Ryan Drechsel, granddaughters, Taylor and Quinn of San Antonio, Texas. Sally is also survived by her sister, Sudie Rushton from Greenville, SC along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service officiated by Reverend Mitch Maher will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, at the Katy Funeral Home (Dignity Memorial) with visitation for family and friends to follow. A private graveside service for family will be held later that day at the Houston National Cemetery.
