Severe weather struck the Katy area during the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 10, as gusty winds moved through central and North Fort Bend, Northwestern Harris, and Waller Counties.

Severe weather struck the Katy area during the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 10, as gusty winds moved through central and North Fort Bend, Northwestern Harris, and Waller Counties. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 1a.m. Wednesday, lasting until 3a.m., predicting quarter-sized hail and possible damage to vehicles. A flood advisory followed at 3a.m. in effect until 6a.m. At 10a.m. CenterPoint power outage tracker showed almost 3200 homes in the greater Katy area to be without power. Businesses in the 800 block of S. Mason Road suffered damage to roofs, signage, and trees. Firestone and the Bourbon Street Sports Bar experienced significant damage. All businesses in the shopping center will remain closed, according to Romero Sanchez of Harris County ESD 48, who stated in a Facebook post that the Harris County Engineering department would conduct inspections before people would be allowed back in.
