The Tompkins boys track and field team put together a great performance at the Class 6A Track and Field Meet on Saturday, taking the bronze medal at the meet after a huge day by the Falcons athletes.

Tompkins finished with 60 points, just one point behind second place Duncanville and nine points behind Atascocita, which took first place at the meet. The Falcons were led by Jayden Keys, who in the final meet of his high school career took home the Athlete of the Meet Awaard and took gold in the long jump, gold in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 110-meter hurdles while also being part of a Tompkins 400-meter relay team that finished fourth overall. Jhase McMillan medaled in the 200-meter dash, finishing third, while Blake Hamilton finished fifth to help secure the Falcons third place spot.

Tompkins 800-meter relay time of 1:22.72 was the second fastest time in high school history, breaking the national record of 1:23.25 that had stood since 2018 and coming second to Duncanville, which broke the record with a time of 1:222.25.

Tompkins was not the only school that had athletes with big performances at the meet. On the boys side, Katy’s Adam Carter took the silver in the shot put, while Seven Lakes’ Max Austin finished second in the pole vault and Jordan’s James Ledbetter took silver in the 300-meter hurdles. Mayde Creek’s Elijah Ferguson took third in the 400-meter dash, Katy’s Tyler Willis finished fourth in the shot put and Paetow’s Joseph Out-Ugwu finished fourth in the discus.

On the girls side Katy’s London Jackson Bray led the way by finishing second in the 100-meter dash, while Katy’s Elizabeth Brooks finished fourth in the 800-meter run, Mayde Creek’s Jamie Klander finished fifth in the 3200-meter run, Seven Lake’s Janey Campbell took fifth in the shot put and Seven Lakes’ Carla Angueira-Colombani finished fifth in the pole vault, while Bray took fifth in the 200-meter dash. Katy was the top finisher from Katy ISD as a team, finishing 10^th as a team.
