In celebration of its 90th anniversary, Goya Foods hosted Goya Gives Day on March 31— the 90th day of the year — with a nationwide day of service and philanthropy. Through its Goya Gives initiative, the company donated 1 million pounds of food to families in need across the United States. Goya facilities and more than 100 partner organizations nationwide and internationally — including locations in Houston, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and Madrid, Spain — participated in this coordinated day of giving.

At the Goya Foods of Texas facility at 30602 Goya Road in Brookshire, hundreds of volunteers from more than 25 community organizations gathered to pack and distribute nearly 200,000 pounds of food for community groups and five food banks serving families across the greater Houston area.

“Taking place just before Easter during Holy Week, the event will showcase volunteers working together in a large-scale community outreach effort to help fight food insecurity and support local families,” said a company spokesperson in the days leading up to the project.

Volunteers from several Katy-Brookshire area organizations came to help pack the donated food in individual bags ready for needy families. Participants included Katy Christian Ministries, Eyes on Me, Cy-HOPE, Yaipak of Texas, Kids’ Meals, Community Family Centers, Latino Learning Center, Bread of Life, Power House Church, Spring Spirit, Gulfton Citizens Advisory Council (City of Houston), American Legion Post 472, and other local churches, food banks and community partners. The office of State Representative Christina Morales (District 145) also assisted.

After receiving recognition through proclamations from Mayor Robert Richards of the City of Brookshire and from officials at the City of Houston and Houston City College, Goya officials spoke of the company’s 90-year legacy of service and its commitment to fighting food insecurity.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, approximately 47 million Americans live in food-insecure households, highlighting the growing need for community partnerships and corporate giving initiatives, officials said.

For 90 years, Goya Foods has remained committed to nourishing families and strengthening communities. Goya Gives Day reflects the company’s ongoing mission to support those in need while celebrating nine decades of heritage, service, and community impact, a company spokesperson said.
