Katy ISD board maintains tax rates for third consecutive year

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees met Sept. 21 and approved the district’s maintenance and operations (M&O) and debt service interest and sinking (I&S) tax rates, maintaining the district’s current overall tax rate of $1.1171 per $100 of property valuation. Trustees kept Katy ISD’s total tax rate fixed for the third straight year, with no increase. The rate funds the district’s day-to-day operations across more than 100 schools and support facilities and pays down existing debt.

“Maintaining our overall tax rate for the third consecutive year reflects our commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars,” Katy ISD Board President Lance Redmon said. “As student needs continue to evolve, we remain focused on providing high-quality programs and resources for our students and families while being mindful of the financial impact on our community.”

Approved Tax Rates: 2026 – 2027

Maintenance & Operations/General

Operating (M&O) $0.7271

Interest & Sinking/Debt Service $0.3900

Total Tax Rate $1.1171

While the tax rate remains unchanged, increased property values raise additional revenue at the unchanged rate, resulting in a slight increase in local revenue. However, this gain is offset by reduced state funding. The district’s taxable property value grew by a modest 1.5 percent.

Budgeted student enrollment for 2026 – 2027 remains relatively consistent with the 2025 – 2026 school year, and the district continues to work toward reducing its budget deficit through transparent and disciplined spending, a spokesperson said.

The board-approved tax rates will take effect immediately and will appear on tax statements later this fall.
