Twenty teams from around the Houston area will all travel to Katy this weekend to take part in this year’s boys basketball tournament, with both Katy ISD schools and some area powerhouses coming together to prepare for district play in a weekend of great competition.
Six Katy ISD teams will compete in the tournament with the other Houston area teams and they will be split into four brackets, as they teams will play at Jordan, Katy, Cinco Ranch and Seven Lakes over the course of three days to determine the bracket and tournament winners.
Jordan and Seven Lakes headline the tournament, as the two come in ranked No. 13 and No. 16 in the state respectively. The Warriors sit at 9-1 on the season while the Spartans have also had a strong start, sitting at 8-3. They aren’t the only ones who have gotten off to a hot start in the district though. Katy has jumped out to a 10-1 overall record and Cinco Ranch sits at 8-2 with more talent right with them in Katy ISD.
Cinco will be joined by George Ranch, Eisenhower, Elkins and Dobie in the Cougar bracket, while Jordan will be joined by Tompkins, Klein Forest, Marshall and Fulshear in the Warrior bracket. In the Tiger bracket, Katy will be battling it out with Morton Ranch, Conroe, Cy-Woods and Westside. Finally, Seven Lakes will be joined by Klein, Davis, Lamar and Foster to round out the brackets.
The teams will compete in their brackets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Winners of the brackets will be determined by overall record and if tied head to head and then point differential. It will be only bracket play in this tournament, with the winners taking home the top prize from their four respective brackets.
Things will kick off on Thursday, with Cinco Ranch taking on Elkins, Tompkins facing Fulshear, Jordan also playing Fulshear, Morton Ranch and Katy both playing Conroe and Seven Lakes playing Lamar.
The tournament also is sponsored by some big companies, including Raising Canes Chicken Fingers, Cabo Bobs Burritos and Crave Cookies.
