The British International School of Houston is celebrating two state championship titles this season as the varsity boys soccer team and the Swim team secured top honors.
“These achievements highlight the school’s commitment to inclusive education, student wellbeing and balanced academic and co-curricular opportunity,” said a school spokesperson in a March 10 email to the Katy Times. “They also reflect the dedication of student-athletes, the guidance of experienced coaches and the strength of the school’s global learning community.”
Months of steady training, focus and teamwork led both teams to victory. Athletics Director Sara Lopez praised the students for their determination and character. She said, “Our students showed real character. They supported each other, they stayed focused and they approached every match and every meet with integrity. We are proud of their success and even more proud of the way they achieved it.”
These state championship wins build on BIS Houston’s strong history of co-curricular excellence and demonstrate the value of sport in developing confidence, resilience and leadership, skills that support success in school and beyond, the school spokesperson said.
The varsity boys soccer team delivered a season marked by consistency and calm decision-making under pressure. Their patient, unified approach helped them earn the State title.
Head Coach Tony Biddle shared his pride in the team’s performance. He said, “This team earned their title through teamwork. They stayed patient, they trusted the process and they competed with respect. They represented BIS Houston with maturity and outstanding sportsmanship.”
The team’s strength came from its shared purpose, strong relationships and commitment to improving together, qualities that reflect the school’s emphasis on collaboration and student leadership.
The BIS Houston Swim team enjoyed an exceptional season, marked by personal bests and strong relay performances. The varsity boys won the state championship title and the varsity girls placed third overall.
Head Swim Coach said, “Our swimmers showed real focus this year. They trained with purpose, supported one another and approached every race with confidence. Their title reflects the effort they put in every day.”
Earlier in the year, swimmers trained with three-time Olympian Camille Adams, gaining insight into elite preparation and performance. The experience helped strengthen their mindset and contributed to their success at the State Championships.
Parents want a school where ambition is balanced with wellbeing, the school spokesperson said. At BIS Houston, sport strengthens academic outcomes by helping students stay organized, manage their time
and build strong learning habits. Training and competition also help students stay composed when challenges arise, an essential skill for life beyond school.
Teachers and coaches work closely to ensure every student feels supported. This partnership helps young people thrive in the classroom and enjoy a rich co-curricular life, reinforcing BIS Houston’s belief that academic excellence grows stronger when paired with wellbeing, sport and global learning experiences.
British International School of Houston is located a 2203 N. Westgreen Blvd. in Katy.
