The City of Katy Parks and Recreation Department announced on March 4 that it has been honored with two prestigious awards by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS) in recognition of excellence in innovative programming. The department received both the East Region Innovative Program Award and the Lone Star Programming Achievement Award for their highly successful event, Taylor Swift Ultimate Karaoke Night, held in the Historic Town Square in April 2024.

The coveted awards are granted annually by TRAPS to cities that demonstrate outstanding efforts and innovation in parks and recreation, a spokesperson for the city said. The Taylor Swift Ultimate Karaoke Night, which attracted a large crowd and delighted fans of all ages, was selected for its creativity and impact. Due to its overwhelming success, the City of Katy has decided to bring the magic back with Taylor Swift ERAS 2.0 on April 5, giving those who missed it the first time another opportunity to join in on the fun.

“Looking ahead, 2025 promises even more exciting events designed to bring the community together and support local businesses and nonprofits,” said Kaci Maris, Tourism and Marketing Event Coordinator for the City of Katy. “Event themes like Great 80s, Street Dance in the Square, Coffee and Cars, and Blues and Brews are set to take over the downtown square throughout the year, with all events free and open to the public.”

The Katy Exchange event, set for March 15, will be the inaugural occasion to experience the city’s new trolley service. The trolley will offer rides from the downtown square to popular local attractions, including the Heritage Society homes, VFW Museum, and Johnny Nelson Heritage Museum. Guests will also be treated to a sneak peek of the newly redesigned Visitors Center during its soft opening.
