Former City Councilmember Durran Dowdle has decided not to run for city council. The former mayor pro tem made the announcement in a Facebook post on February 9.
“After careful consideration and a review of the current field of candidates for City Council, I have decided to not pursue a position for the upcoming May 2, 2026, Regular Officers’ Election for the City of Katy,” Dowdle said in the post.
“When I initially announced my candidacy, my goal was to ensure our community had qualified candidates, and no self-proclaimed seat swapping candidates,” Dowdle said. “Since that time, along with a recent change in my mom’s health, several individuals have stepped forward to run and serve as public officials. I believe that by stepping back now, I am allowing the community to focus on the best candidate to serve the citizens of Katy, as I need to be an advocate for my mom. While I will not be a candidate in this cycle, my commitment to the City of Katy remains unchanged. I look forward to continuing to support our community as a former Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem as I will focus on future leadership and wish all the candidates ‘best of luck’ in their perspective campaigns. I am deeply grateful to my friends, family, and neighbors who offered their encouragement and support over the past few months.”
Dowdle had filed a treasurer’s report but had not yet announced which council position he was seeking.
Dowdle represented Ward B from 2014 to 2020 and also served as mayor pro tem from 2017 to 2019.
