Fort Bend County and CenterPoint Energy strengthen disaster resiliency with generator donation

Fort Bend County Judge KP George, alongside local leaders and CenterPoint Energy representatives, announced a significant step forward in disaster preparedness during a press conference on March 14. The event, held at Landmark Community Center in Missouri City, highlighted the county’s ongoing efforts to enhance emergency response capabilities following Hurricane Beryl.

As part of the initiative, CenterPoint Energy donated two generators to support critical shelters and resource centers in Fort Bend County. “This collaboration aims to ensure essential services remain operational during power outages and severe weather events, reinforcing the community’s resilience in times of crisis,” said a county spokesperson in a subsequent press release.

“We are committed to proactive disaster preparedness and ensuring our residents have access to safe, fully operational shelters during emergencies,” said Judge KP George. “These efforts will strengthen our emergency response infrastructure and improve our ability to support residents during disasters.”

Fort Bend County’s Office of Emergency Management, led by Greg Babst, emphasized the importance of investing in infrastructure that enhances community safety. “We've already got plans in place to exercise some of these areas right now for our sheltering operations coming up in May for our preparedness events leading into hurricane season,” Babst stated.

June Deadrick, representing CenterPoint Energy, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting local communities. “We are working with communities across Greater Houston to determine the best locations for the backup generators that will support the neighborhoods and help critical community partners keep the lights on during major weather events or other emergencies,” Deadrick said.

The initiative is part of Fort Bend County’s broader strategy to strengthen emergency response efforts through public-private partnerships, ensuring communities are better equipped for future disasters.
