Freedom rings as Katy Elementary celebrates Constitution Week
Fifth graders at Katy Elementary, 5726 George Bush Drive in Katy, listen attentively on Sept. 17 as Brenda Hunter Martin (left) of the Star of Destiny Chapter of the NSDAR speaks about Constitution Week, celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. Also assisting in the program were City of Katy Mayor Dusty Thiele (center) and Katy ISD Board of Trustees secretary James Cross (right). The NSDAR presented a bookmark to each student with a bell, which students rang for one minute precisely at 3 p.m., commemorating the signing of the Constitution at 4 p.m. in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 1787.
